Why I think I'll deer hunt this fall

So, I was going to tell you another deer hunting story and then I realized that all MY deer hunting stories end with me not getting the deer. My husband, my brother-in-law, my father-in-law, whoever we are hunting with... they always end up with a deer and I don't. I've shot squirrels, quail, ducks, geese and caught fish but I've never harvested a deer - so that settles my decision.

Last year (the 2007-08 season) I didn't hunt at all, with a new baby and getting my freelance Graphic Design business up and running I didn't have the time to go out and wasn't comfortable leaving Lil Sugar. I told my husband that for the 2008-09 season I would pick one season to do some limited hunting in. I have in-laws close that will love to have the newest member of the family around and at a year old I'm more comfortable with the idea of leaving her to go hunt.

I was really leaning towards waterfowl hunting, but my husband started deer hunting during archery season again and I really enjoy archery so I'm going to deer hunt. A side benefit of that is that I can go to my annual girls-weekend -- a fun Friday night/Saturday morning Ladies Retreat attended by 200-300 women (including some of my best friends that live 4-6 hours away) in a city full of outlet malls - it's the one weekend a year I throw all tomboyishness to the wind and become a girly-girl -- without taking the chance of missing any opening days - sometimes the retreat falls on opening day of waterfowl season and I have a really hard time making decisions on what to do those years!

Well, I guess it's time to get the bow out and start practicing again. Is it ok to wait until the ground isn't frozen anymore? Oh, and next week - I'll tell you about how my Hubby got this deer:

It sounds like you have a plan. Here's hoping you get a deer this time around.
