OK, I have a crazy busy week coming up trying to get all the last minute print collateral ran for our Mother's & Daughter's banquet this weekend, arranging centerpieces, setting up the event photo corner, getting out invitations to my Dad & Step-Mom's 25th Anniversary virtual party, work, a sewing project, housework, playing with the baby and the list goes on... so I decided to have a contest and the winner gets a prize. All of my regular blog features will be on hold until next week and aside from this post, the contest and winner posts will be short, sweet and to the point! Friday I'll have the waterfowler's safety post up.
Here's the background:
Lil Sugar is starting to say things and life is getting pretty exciting around here. Her first word was "Bye Bye" her second word is Thumper's call name. For those of you who don't know what that means - Thumper is a registered black lab (who happens to have a junior hunt test title and a rating of "excellent" on his hips - anyone out there looking for a stud dog?) As a registered dog he has his "official" name which I can't tell you because it would give away my last name but it is a pun - his Sire's name was "Hell Broke Loose" and Thumper's registered name is basically - I told you so - it is great when we're at hunt tests or field trials and he's getting ribbons because they use that registered name. He also has a "call name" that is what we call him when we're training, when he's working and about half the time around the house. The rest of the time we call him Thumper, Loudmouth, Stupid Dog... whatever the occasion calls for.
Here's the contest:
Guess his name.
Here are the rules:
One entry per person per post
Family & close friends - you cannot participate (saying "ha, ha I know the answer" is acceptable but if you give it away I'll hold you down and let Thumper lick you in the face)
I'll give you clues tomorrow and Wednesday
This means that there will be three posts and you get three guesses
The contest will end Thursday morning when I get to the blog (normally around 6 or 7 in the morning)
All of the correct entries will be put in a hat and I'll draw a winner! So if you guess right today and tomorrow and Wednesday you'll have three chances to win.
Also - if no one gets it right I'll put all the entries in a hat & draw a winner - so no matter what someone will win!
The prize:
That's the hard part - I have several things I could offer as a prize so I'm going to let the winner know what their options are and we'll go from there. The options will include a book, baby stuff, a pair of oil lamps, hunting equipment and who knows what else I'll come up with by Thursday!
Ladies & Gentlemen...
Start guessing!
Edited to add:
Thanks to CPA Mom for noticing that I needed to post a little clarification...
You are guessing Thumper's "Call Name"
It is 1 word
Also she made a good point about whether the guesses should be public so... to enter leave a comment here telling me that you've emailed me a guess and email your guesses to:
crazydogcreative [at] gmail [dot] com. If you email a guess and don't leave a comment and your email happens to land in my spam folder I might delete it. Please put the word "Contest" in the subject line.
Thanks!

Are we guessing his call name or his registered name? And you should have people email you their guess or people may just read the comments first and leave the same answers...
We had a black Lab who we called Sheba. Her full name was Lady Sheba of Midland, which was the town we lived in at the time.
Not that this story will help me guess Thumper's call name at all, I just thought I'd share it.
Kristine - that reminds me of Tank's registered name - his call name is Stetson and he is "____(our last name's) Black Stetson". Our 2nd dog was a chocolate female that we had to re-home with some friend's of ours when she was about 4 years old. Her name is (our last name again)'s Blizzard Bailey and we called her Bailey - we drove through a blizzard to bring her home, they were closing the highway behind us and it took twice as long to get home as it had taken to get to her breeder so Blizzard Bailey seemed appropriate!
hmm..I gotta think about this and I'll email soon.
I will have to wait for more clues.
Just to let you know, I sent an email, and I did use Contest in the subject line.
Thanks,
He usually holds us down and licks us in the face without your help, or permission for that matter, lack of direct orders to the contrary is usually sufficient.
