We Have A Winner And - How to Get a Wet Baby Out of the Tub

I said last week that one of the harder things for me to figure out, as a new mother was how to get the baby out of the tub after I gave her a bath - without getting soaked myself. Arthur, who is expecting his first baby later this year asked for a step-by-step so here it is:

First - I recommend this for the baby's first six months or so - it doesn't take up much space, dries quickly and is cheap (I think this one was $7 at Wal-Mart).

Now I'm using this.
I picked it up at a garage sale for 50¢. I didn't want one of the big tubs and I couldn't make myself spend $25 on the seat that Babies-R-Us sells, even though it is nicer and has the little pad for the parent to kneel on. If you want something like this they are hard to find - there were babies who died because their parents sat them in this then left them in the tub while they went to answer a phone, write a blog post, feed the dog or whatever. So these bath seats were declared "unsafe". Target sells something similar on their website but I wasn't able to find anything in any of the retail stores I tried. I NEVER leave Lil Sugar alone in the tub so I'm not afraid of using this. I have an idea of my own that I think would work even better and I know that no one is making it right now - but who to sell the idea to is a bit beyond me at this point in time.

OK - after you've given the baby a bath you have to get it out of the tub. As a new parent you will find that a wet baby can be hard to hold on to! After the third or fourth bath I finally figured out a way to get Lil Sugar out of the tub without getting myself soaked.

Here is her towel
1) Fold the hood back
2) Hold the folded towel against your chest with your chin
Unless – you are using a towel like the one my mom made, then the hood is in the center of the towel and is large enough that you can just hold the edge of the hood against your chest with your chin
3) Put one hand under the babies bottom and the other hand on its stomach
4) This is where the directions get a little hard to write – lift the baby and put it against the towel that is against your chest and then figure out how to wrap the baby up. The hood will flip over and go over the baby’s hair and you will have the rest of the towel to dry the baby off with.

I have this nifty little counter in my bathroom

It has proven to be the perfect place to dry Lil Sugar off at and get her clean diaper on her before I take her out to get her dressed. It was also nice during the winter when it was so cold - we have a space heater in the bathroom that we would turn on. I would dry Sugar off, comb out her hair and get it mostly dried and get her dressed before we left the warm bathroom.

If you have any questions ask away – I’ll try to answer them!

Now for the Give-A-Way Winner!

First I put all the names in a hat (there were 8 entries)
Then I was going to let Lil Sugar grab a name out of the hat
But….
She picked the hat up and slung it around and the names went everywhere so I grabbed her hand so that I could take it away from her and there was one name left

So I decided to let that person be the winner…

I’ll send you an email shortly!
Email me back with your address and I’ll get your prize on the way to you.

Later this week
An announcement
Our Fish Fry Recipe
The High Chair project
And who knows what else – I have lots of things to write floating around in my head including Why I Hunt, My first Mother’s Day as a Mother, The First Fishing Trip of the Year, the collection I won’t De-Clutter away, and why I don’t have a TV – time management however is still a work in progress for me so I often find myself running out of time to get things done. Which means that the things I’m obligated to do come first. Fortunately Blogger now supports scheduled posts and last week that proved to be an awesome thing (usually I have a pretty leisurely Tuesday and/or Wednesday so those are good days for me to spend some time writing) – I’m sure it will this week and the weeks to follow as well!

Happy Monday everyone-
I’m Blessed!

Awesome. How lucky am I? I never win anything.

Thanks for the tips on how to get the little one out of the bath without getting wet, and I'm going to check my email right now!

Congratulations Arthur. Is that your first piece of baby related gear?

Blessed, looking forward to your future posts. Sounds like you have a lot of good subjects there.

I also know exactly what you mean about time management. Being able to write posts ahead of time and the fact that I write fairly fast are the only things that save me.

Congrats, Arthur - you win the prize AND get to learn how to get a wet baby out of the tub all in one day! Pretty lucky, I'd say! As are we all to learn that handy tip, by the way. No babies yet over here, but someday I imagine that will be a good thing to know, so thanks for sharing!

I used that exact same blue seat for my daughter in the tub. It was awesome for letting her be in the tub with her big brother. Of course, I never left the room and she loved sitting next to him.
